Moutsis Dimos

Dimos Moutsis was born on 2 August 1938 in Piraeus. He is one of the most important contemporary Greek composers. From young age he was studying violin and later studied classical music at the Conservatory of Athens. He started as a musician cooperating with major composers such as Manos Hadjidakis. During his career apart from songs he has written music for several theaters and films. He wrote a long series of popular songs, 32 the number plus two discs “One Summer” and “A Smile” with the participation of very well-known and emerging singers (Mitsias-Galani).

In 1971 where the “Holy February” with “Mitropanos- Salpea”, a very important work, throughout the first period, opening even with this project, as it turned out afterwards, new roads in later Greek discography. Two more disks with folk songs, the “Settlement A” on the “Speed” and in 1974, another important LP the “Testimonials” with several great songs.

In 1975 attempts to “Tetralogy” with emerging Alcestis Cantor, a quite difficult task, deciding to confront brutal texts of Greek poetry (Cavafy, Seferis, Karyotakis Rizzo). Here, is very interesting to hear this work and the orchestral version. If we removed the voices say, you might as well take a different dimension. Nothing before and after in the field of poetry set to music does not resemble him. The impressive orchestration complex & colourful, makes often, as it may seem incredible to forget these verses, which are from the best written in Greek poetry and just focus on the music.

In 1976 by the Workers ‘Agreement’, music from the play by George Skourti “Strike”, and in 1979 the “Itinerary” and the orchestration of surprises “Labour Agreement”.

In 1981 he released the ‘Dam’ with Tripoli. A 180 degree turn: “Erinoula,” “Letter from the Foreign Legion”, “I say a word”. An ideological, music and aesthetic proposal, at all levels had to propose something fresh and new, and it succeeded.
